Enhancing Canine Reproductive Health

Preserving Genetics and Breeding Across Distances

Many factors contribute to the likelihood of pregnancy when using artificial insemination, including type of semen (fresh, chilled or frozen), semen quality, age and fertility of both the stud dog and bitch, site of semen deposition (intrauterine or vaginal), and time of insemination.

Fresh Semen

Our trained veterinary surgeon will collect semen from the stud and perform precise vaginal insemination of the female. Fresh ejaculated canine semen has the longest viability. Semen from young, fertile stud dogs can survive for up to 5-7 days in the bitch’s reproductive tract.

Fresh Chilled Semen

Chilled semen insemination has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its excellent pregnancy success rates and cost efficiency in preparation and transport.

We prepare fresh-chilled semen by diluting freshly collected semen with a special canine extender that protects the sperm during cooling. It is then slowly cooled to 4°C, where it stays viable for up to 10 days. This process helps preserve the sperm’s energy, keeping it healthy and fertile for longer.

Frozen Semen

Breeders around the world now use frozen dog semen to improve breeds and increase genetic diversity. So, freezing semen helps preserve and share valuable genetics for the long term. Once frozen, it can be safely stored for future use or sale, protecting against the loss of even the best studs.

We freeze semen in small “straws” and store them safely in liquid nitrogen tanks at -196°C. Each straw is one breeding unit and usually contains between 100 and 200 million sperm cells.

Is it For you?

One of the greatest advantages of frozen semen is its ability to be stored indefinitely, preserving your dog’s breeding potential long after his lifetime. So, semen banking offers lasting peace of mind and invaluable flexibility for every dog owner.

For high-demand show, competition, and working dogs, we collect and freeze semen during off-peak times, so breeding doesn’t affect peak performance. We tailor collection schedules to your dog’s health and semen quality, while stored semen supports your breeding goals.

With Fresh or chilled AI, a stud dog’s ejaculate usually serves one or a few bitches, and any unused semen is discarded within 24 hours. By freezing semen, you can divide each ejaculate into multiple doses, store them indefinitely, and use them as needed.

Frozen semen lets you ship well before a bitch’s season, removing last-minute pressure. Stored at -196°C, it stays viable indefinitely and can be shipped worldwide following local regulations. This flexibility reduces stress and expands your stud dog’s genetic reach internationally.
